The Carina Ari Medal 2010
Nathalie Ruiz in ”Förvildad trädgård” from performance at Dansens Hus, Stockholm, March 2010 Photographer: Lesley Leslie Spinks The Swedish dance scene has many artists who are engaged alternately in government-funded institutions and independent companies, often working under tough conditions. One of these is Nathalie Ruiz. An established dancer in France, she joined the Cullberg Ballet in 1988. Since then, she has collaborated with Sweden’s most highly-acclaimed modern choreographers, and especially with Mats Ek in his ballet and theatre productions. She is also a choreographer, with her own unique style that has come to expression in several works for the theatre and opera and in her position as director of Älvsborgsteatern. In 2010, she has performed in Gluck’s Orphée at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, is currently working on a new production for Tensta Konsthall and is performing in The Cherry Orchard at Dramaten. She is a multitalented artist who has also contributed in a remarkable way as an assistant and rehearser. Nathalie Ruiz promotes and enriches Swedish dance with her presence, her expressive style and her passionate commitment.
